The aim of the game is to get the most points by winning tricks, where a trick is a set of cards played in one round, and the highest card wins. The game of Spades is usually played by four players but can be played with only two. The game continues in this way until one player forms a hand of 10 cards that can be divided into sets of three or four cards. On each turn, players can either draw a card from the deck or from the discard pile, and then they must discard one card from their hand. The objective of the game is to be the first player to score 100 points by forming sets of cards, or “melds.” Each player is dealt 10 cards, and the remaining cards are placed face down in a stack, with the top card turned face up to start the discard pile.
